Warriors Too Much To Bear
SAN JOSE – Valley Christian varsity girls soccer team shutout visiting Santa Clara Wednesday 4 – 0 in the season home opener. The Bruins were never able to get on track stymied by a dominating performance from the Warrior midfield, they were able to penetrate the defense only a few times.
Freshman Raylina Rodriguez scored her first VC goal when she finished a well placed Anna Calerdon ball giving the Warriors the early lead. The 1 – 0 score held though the first half.
The second half saw Calderon get her opportunity when she drilled a perfectly placed Lyndi Hausmann pass for the score. Sophomore Erica Villareal later found the back of the net when she bent a ball from the corner for her first goal of the season.
For the second time in as many games Macie McMillan was called to the spot to take a PK. She buried the shot scoring her second of the year to close out the match.
“Standout games by Megan Malave and Sarah Suwanda provided the depth necessary to make sure that we have fresh legs on the field at all times,” stated Coach Jolene Keel. Senior Sarah Roth also displayed her versatility playing in four different positions throughout the game. “Sarah brings us options as a utility player that give the team many different looks,” Keel said of Roth.
The team record now stands at 2 – 0 for the season and heads off to play Evergreen on Monday.
