VC Girls Dog Sobrato in Season Opener
MORGAN HILL – Two second half goals sealed the first victory of the new season for the Girl's Varsity soccer team. The game, VC’s first trip to the four year old campus in Morgan Hill was a hard fought come from behind win.
The Lady Bulldogs scored midway through the first half on a miscue and subsequent collision which left defender Macie McMillan with a dislocated thumb. The ball slipped past Kendra Gillio for the mark in all of the confusion.
Both teams had five shots in the first half. The second half saw the momentum shift to VC scoring twice on 5 more shots. Sobrato was unable to generate any offence as the Warriors began to find their balance.
The first goal came on a penalty kick resulting from the goalie interference call when Dana Gambello was shouldered to ground while chasing a loose ball by the Sobrato goalie. Macie McMillan relived some of the pain from her dislocated thumb when she found the back of the net on the PK.
The winning goal came with under ten minutes remaining when Stephanie Bales punched a shot from the right side beating the keeper near post.
The team will enjoy Thanksgiving and a day off before regrouping for the annual Alumni Exhibition game and barbeque on Saturday.
