Seniors Play Lights Out

SAN JOSE – The cold and blustery weather did not keep supporters from coming out to watch Valley’s largest group of seniors put on one last show under the lights. The team did not disappoint, beating Notre Dame Belmont 2 – 0.

Stepping onto the field for their last home league game 14 seniors (11 players and 3 managers) were honored for their commitment to the VC Girls Soccer Program prior to the start of the event.

Valley took control of the match early but did not find the back of the net until the 37:51 mark when Junior Emily Von Raesfeld sent an awesome slanting ball to Senior Stephanie Bales, who sent a rocket past the Belmont goalie putting the Warriors on the board.

The second score came less than a minute later as again Emily Von Raesfeld sent a shot that was not controlled by the goalie. A charging Erin Holm (Sr.) gathered the ball and deposited it for the emotional goal.

“All I wanted to do was get Erin a chance to score tonight,” blurted an elated Emily Von Raesfeld. “We really appreciate everything they (Seniors) have done for us, it’s great to watch them enjoy their night.”

With ten minutes remaining in the match 10 of the 11 senior players were put on the field to finish the game together. “It’s too bad Lyndi Hausmann (Sr.) was injured in the Mitty game a week ago,” said Coach Jolene Keel. “We had planned to have all of them out there at once. We figured why not? This opportunity may never happen again.”

The Warriors improved their record to 7 – 3 – 2 and remain unbeaten in their last 6 outings.
