Come From Behind Victory

St. Ignatious 1

SAN JOSE – “It never fails, we always get into these tight games with SI,” Head Coach Jolene Keel discussing the come from behind 2 – 1 victory at Valley Christian.

The Lady Warriors knew this too.  Just over four minutes into the game SI outside midfielder Kimmy Bettinger found the back of the net with a stinging goal. Without losing a beat, the team went back to work, out shooting the Wildcats 8 – 2 in the first half. The first score came late in the half on a set play as Emily Von Raesfeld connected with Sarah Roth for the tally.

Starting the second half tied, Valley Christian was determined to keep the pressure on. Less than nine minutes elapsed when Stephanie Bales sent a cross in front of the SI goal that bounced around until Emily Von Raesfeld gathered it up and put it beyond the goal line for what turned out to be the winning goal.

It was a real team effort as the defensive and mid lines worked as one solid unit that did not allow many SI attacks to develop. The always physical style of SI Senior Danielle Brunache was met by an equally physical VC Senior Sarah Roth who kept Brunache off of the ball most of the day.

“The team continues to play with confidence and is not overly concerned with playing from behind, although I’d much rather have the lead,” joked Keel.

The team will enjoy a much needed break from the hectic game schedule facing Mitty on the road next Thursday.
