VC Girls On A Roll
SAN JOSE – Warm weather and blue skies supplied the backdrop for the Valley Christian Varsity Girls Soccer team on Saturday as they defeated visiting Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep 3 – 1 improving their league record to 6-3-1.
Not wasting any time Stephanie Bales scored on an Emily Von Raesfeld cross from the right side just 4:21 into the match. The second came at the end of the half as a SHC player was whistled for a handball in the box. Macie McMillan placed the PK in the back of the net for the 2 – 0 half time lead.
The second half opened in much the same way. 3:45 into the half Stephanie Bales delivered a perfect cross from out near the corner that Sarah Roth headed into the goal for the Warrior’s final goal of the game. Sacred Heart was able to avoid the shutout when Kendra Gillio mishandled a Courtney Hayden free kick that slipped past for their only score.
“We are really pleased with our play today,” Coach Jolene Keel commented. “We set specific goals this week and then went out and accomplished them. One of our goals today was to get on the board early in both halves. The girls were really focused.” Valley Christian has been playing very well of late unbeaten in their last four outings. |
