Nil Tie Is Victory Against Mitty
SAN JOSE – It was the last time to visit the Mitty venue for the group of Valley Christian seniors who have never realized much success here. One last chance to make their mark they rallied the team and played their hearts out. After 80 minutes they walked away with a 0 – 0 tie.
Unbeaten in league Mitty has systematically controlled the WCAL this year. After the 1 – 0 home loss to Mitty in December, it was clear that the Warriors were able to contend and began preparation for the second meeting.
The defense was on fire today stopping what appeared to be two certain scoring opportunities. Stephanie Bales, Macie McMillan, Katie McLaughlin, and Dana Gambello all had career days forcing a lot of the play to the midfield. Kendra Gillio also had a big day facing 12 shots from an extremely aggressive Mitty attack.
The Warriors had their scoring chances too. Senior Lyndi Hausmann just missed an open net opportunity after juking the goalie. Hausmann later retired from the game with a sprained ankle after a collision with a Monarch defender.
“In this case a tie is a win,” Coach Keel stated after the match. “We are really gaining momentum right now and are looking forward to facing all the teams in the second round of league play.”
