SAN JOSE - The slashing style of the St. Francis girls soccer team was too much to handle today as Valley Christian fell to defeat 2 – 0 on the VC Soccer Field.

The Lady Warrior played a near flawless first half controlling the game early on in the match. Senior Captain Stephanie Bales had an outstanding game in the midfield gathering up every ball that came near her. Morgan Celaya got off two challenging shots that gave St. Francis goalie Lindsay Dickerson some trouble.

As well St. Francis tested VC goalie Kendra Gillio with a few big attempts to no avail. A stingy defensive line lead by Dana Gambello and Macie McMillan was able to keep the Lancers attack off balance. The half ended with yet another 0 – 0 tie. 

“We were very strong and very confident in the first half. It really seemed like we were on the verge of putting a ball in the net and controlling the pace of the game.” Coach Keel stated. That was not to be as the second half took on a different tone.

St. Francis found their groove and began to wear the Warriors down. Dominating the play they gained control of the midfield and moved hard into their attack zone. At 61:28 a perfectly placed shot found the back of the net for the first Lancer tally. The second goal came at the 69:44 mark.

The Warriors had a couple of decent builds but were unable to convert. Senior Lyndi Hausmann had a super performance in the second half as an attacking forward applying pressure to the Lancer defense.
