Presenting A Shutout

SAN JOSE - Just ahead of one of the largest forecasted storms to hit the area in the past few years the Valley Christian Varsity Girls soccer team ventured to Willow Glen to face two formidable opponents Thursday in Mother Nature and Presentation High School. The Panthers took it to the Warriors 1 – 0.  Luckily for all Mother Nature was also shut out.

The first half saw lots of action. This game was one of quick transition on the very short and very narrow pitch. Both teams moved the ball well. The Panthers dominated the game for the first 15 minutes.

After making some on field adjustments the Lady Warriors gained control of the game, out shooting Presentation 8 -2. The first half however ended nil. Even Mother Nature did not get on the board.

The second half was more of the same. Valley dominated play putting up 11 shots to the Panthers two. The Presentation goalie made some great stops squelching any VC celebrations. Then with 18 minutes remaining a Panther attacker slipped a gap and got a 1 v 1 chance beating Gillio on the shot.

“We really played well today,” Coach Keel stated. “You control the game most of the day and walk away with a funny feeling in the pit of your stomach as you watch it slip away. I am proud of the way the girls performed today, this is an extremely talented group that learns and grows every time they take the field.” she added.

“Our lines were well connected today, with lots of opportunities just could not put it away. I really think we will dominate next game, we are totally motivated to play them again.” Senior Defender Katie McLaughlin commented after the game.

Weather permitting the Lady Warriors will take on Notre Dame Belmont Saturday on their newly turfed field.
