SAN FRANCISCO – Game weary, the VC Varsity soccer team once again boarded a bus for their fifth game in eight days. This time the Warriors headed up to “The City” to play the Sacred Heart Cathedral Irish at the fabled University of San Francisco campus.
Rain and wind challenged both teams as a large storm was just coming on shore. When it was all said and done the Lady Warriors stretched their record to 3 -1 – 1 with a 4 – 0 shutout of the Irish.
The scoring came quickly as Morgan Celaya was on the finishing side of an Emily von Raesfeld free kick just 1:48 into the game. Next, Ali Cheadle drilled a pass from Morgan Celaya past a diving SHC goalie. The first half ended at 2 – 0.
The second half saw the same scoring from the same players. Celaya got her second goal of the contest on a penalty kick after a SHC hand ball in the box. The final score came again from Cheadle on an assist from Chanae Jones who got an opportunity to get some “field time” after spending the first half as keeper.
The team gets a few days of well deserved rest before facing Presentation and Notre Dame Belmont next week. “The two sets of back to back games this week were a true test of our team’s fitness”, said Coach Jolene Keel. “They performed very well this week, we are pleased with our progress and will continue work at getting even stronger” she added.
