SAN JOSE - Sometimes growth is found in areas we do not expect to find it. Although the Varsity soccer team lost to Mitty earlier today by a score of 2 – 3, the team showed the heart and determination of a team that has arrived to challenge the WCAL elite.
The game started off a little shaky as the Monarchs scored two goals early in the game. Both goals were balls that were bouncing around the mouth of the goal before finding their way to the net. The third goal came at the 16:00 minute mark and put the Warriors down 3 - 0.
Fighting back with the determination of champions the team fought back. After a Cheadle breakaway shot was denied on a great play by the goalie the Warriors regrouped and on the next possession found the back of the net when Stephanie Patterson found Ali Cheadle who finished hard to goal.
“Whatever you do today …COMPETE” was written on the locker room board before the game and reiterated to the girls by Coach Jolene Keel at half. The girls came out hard in the second half with Cheadle scoring on a free kick taken by Macie McMillan. Emily von Raesfeld got the assist. And just like that the Warriors were back in it.
A shot just wide of the goal was shot by Cheadle as the clock ran down as the game ended. “A great effort and something to grow and learn from” said Keel after the game.
