SAN JOSE, CA – The Valley Christian Girls Varsity Soccer team stood at the threshold of a dream come true today. Enjoying a season that has brought growth in many areas all that remained was to play one last game. At stake, the CCS Division II title was on the line against Archbishop Mitty, two teams with a lot of recent history.
The Lady Warriors persevered but were outmatched today by a veteran Mitty team that was relentless in pursuit of their 9th CCS title. The Monarchs out shot the Warriors 11 – 2 on their way to a 2 – 0 win.
The first goal came at the 16:16 mark when Mitty forward Samira Jaafari drove a low shot that knuckled and slipped away from the grasp of Chanae Jones. This was the first goal scored against the Warriors in five games and clearly took the wind out of their sails. Mitty seemed to have an answer for every move VC made. The Monarchs collapsed on the Warriors every possession forcing rushed passes that often fell short of their intended targets.
Mitty cashed in again in the 74th minute when Katie Gordon headed a Jenna Brehmer corner kick. The Monarchs bunkered for the remainder of the game.
“Hats off to Mitty, they really came out hard today.” Coach Keel said post game. “We gave all we had today, no excuses, no disappointments, well maybe one, only that the season has to come to an end. It has been an incredible journey.”
Oh yeah, and that dream come true today…it happened. Although those who equate victory only by score may not understand that this team’s dreams were realized in a season that will no doubt go down in the annals of VC Warrior history and remain as the foundation of growth for a group of ladies that learned what it really means to be a part of team.
