01/18/07 ~ G - Soccer
Together At Last

SAN JOSE, CA – The incredible journey that is the Valley Christian Varsity Girls Soccer season took a giant step forward on Thursday at Presentation. Playing very well this season the Warriors had yet to have a “complete” game…that is until today.

The score was only part of the story as VC dominated the Panthers in every category. Out shooting Pres 21 – 5. As well, the team enjoyed as season high 9 corner kicks on the way to the 2 – 0 victory.

Chana’e Jones made a fantastic diving save early in the game that ignited the entire team. From that point on Presentation found the Warrior defense impenetrable. The midfield took control of the game, spreading the formation as wide as possible on the extremely narrow pitch.

Each time the Panthers got the ball they had to deal with the crashing style of play from Stephanie Patterson. “She played with a contagious energy that created many opportunities for us to control the ball, her play exemplified the entire team’s performance today,” said Coach Keel. “We truly had the complete game we’ve been looking for, a total team effort. The girls made the adjustments when they needed…we are elated with their performance today.”

The very explosive Stephanie Bales got the ladies on the board 8:40 into the match when she footed a rebound off of the Presentation goalie created by a Morgan Celaya shot for the winner. Bales has been on fire recently scoring 4 goals in the last 5 games.

Midway through the second half Morgan Celaya got her second assist of the game (also her 4th in 5 games!) when she located Emily vonRaesfeld who buried a picture perfect far post upper “V” shot that left the Pres goalie shaking her head. Celaya’s unselfish play has fueled the Warriors attack of late. Her driving play draws multiple defenders every time she has the ball giving scoring opportunities to her teammates.

“We played the ball around between the defense, midfield, and forward lines during the game better than we have all season. After the game we celebrated all the way back to school…it was an awesome growing experience,” stated Junior defender Katy McLaughlin.

The Lady Warriors head to Serra on Saturday where they will face an always tough Notre Dame Belmont team. With only 4 games remaining in league the team will need to hold the momentum they have created.
