SAN JOSE, CA – The second round of league play started today as the Warriors were pitted against Archbishop Mitty High at the Monarchs home field. As with the first contest, the Warriors played well and came up a goal short, this time by the score of 1 – 0.
The lone score came off of a set play midway through the first half when Katie Gordon knocked a deflected ball for the winner. “Mitty is extremely difficult to defend on set plays,” Coach Keel spoke after the game. “Outside of that one play were there, we had our chances.”
The Monarchs out shot the Warriors 15 – 9 although the game was quite even throughout the match as both teams traded momentum many times.
Valley Christian has practiced diligently to stymie the aggressive and well organized attack but has been unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities. “We have figured out how to stop their attack, now we need to take the game,” said Senior Allison Power.
