MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – Valley Christian Girls Varsity Soccer faced the No. 1 team in the Mercury News top-15 as they visited St. Francis today. The perennial NorCal powerhouse displayed why they are the top of the heap as they outscored the Warriors 2 – 0 in yet another physical match.
The Lancers first goal came off of a set play 11:08 into the first half on a well struck ball from Junior Katie Mitchell. The second goal was scored at 54:57 when the current WCAL scoring leader Danielle Drago finished a well delivered ball from sophomore Maddie Payne.
Although outscored, VC had great play on both sides of the ball. Big plays from different players kept the team in the match well into the second half. Stephanie Bales and Allison Power each had huge defensive plays denying the slashing style Lancer offense scoring opportunities. Morgan Celaya also had strong play in the midfield.
The Lady Warriors were disappointed by the outcome but already look forward to the upcoming rematch which will be the final home game for seniors.
