Girls Basketball 2006-07 Season Preview

The Lady Warrior basketball program starts this year with a distinctly different feel than the past few seasons. The well-traveled and experienced 4 senior starters from the class of 2006 are gone and a new group of underclass women look to bring a spark with the returning players. The 2006-07 season will be the first for new coach Richard Harris who is taking over after a successful undefeated season at the freshman level last year.

The ladies have put in a lot of conditioning and fundamental work over the summer and pre-season in preparation for successful results individually but more importantly as a team. The focus of this year’s team will be on the fast tempo and pressure they bring in practice, translating to the court on game night. What they lack in size they make up for with quickness, hustle and over all athletic ability. The team is coming along great with their effort and they are improving daily. The coaching staff and players are anxious to compete in three early season tournaments at Pioneer, Monte Vista and Archbishop Mitty. These games should be a good test to get us started in what we plan to be our best year in the tough West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL).

Our hope as a coaching staff is to produce not only a good basketball team but also model women of character and respect. This is a daily test for the ladies as they receive a character grade at the end of every practice. These grades have translated to a better awareness of self and overall bonding as the team strives every day to carry one another’s burdens. “One of our goals as a coaching staff is to have our girls looking like a team on and off the court”, says assistant coach Dustin Watson.

We look forward with great anticipation to the season and hope for a deep playoff run to keep with the tradition of years past. The ladies will bring a fun, fast paced style of play that everyone is sure to enjoy. We hope to see you out this year to support us in this 2006-07 season. GO WARRIORS!
