Cal State San Bernardino pitcher Cheyne Hann today was named the Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic Association pitcher of the week for his outstanding effort in an 11-0 Coyotes win over Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday.
Hann, 4-1 on the season, is the second Coyotes pitcher to earn the honor in 2008. Matt Long has won the award twice this season and could have been nominated a third time for his complete-game 5-1 victory over the Warriors on Sunday, had not Hann pitched a better game on Saturday.
The lanky right-hander from Santa Clara allowed just two hits in nine innings against the CCAA's second-place team, a team ranked No. 2 in the West Region by collegiate baseball writers and No. 26 in the nation.
Hann struck out six batters and walked none. He faced just 31 batters, four over the minimum and two of those who reached base did so on Coyote errors. He did not allow a runner past second base and retired the side in order five times.
The Coyotes split their four-game series with the Warriors and will travel to Cal State Monterey Bay to play a four-game series with the Otters, starting Friday.
