Worthy Earns All-America Recognition
(3/26/08 - Men's Basketball) IRVINE - Sophomore point guard Terrence Worthy and senior shooting guard Ryan Read were both named among the NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball All-Americans, announced Tuesday evening as selected by a national panel of coaches.
Worthy, who was one of three Concordia players selected to the all-Golden State Athletic Conference team earlier in the month, finished third on the team with a career-high 10.5 points per game. He led the NAIA and broke his own school record with 103 steals while averaging 3.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.
In the recent loss to Campbellsville in the opening round of the NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship, Worthy, a native of San Jose, Calif., led Concordia with 19 points as he connected on 6-of-12 from the field and 3-of-6 from three-point range.
Read was named to the honorable mention list after leading the Eagles with 16.5 points per game. He knocked down 125 three-pointers for the season, second-most for a single season in Concordia history and placed him second among all NAIA players for the campaign. His 546 points for the season placed him 9th on the Eagles’ single-season scoring list.
The Victory Sports Network, a media organization that solely covers NAIA sports, named Read to its all-America second team. After playing his first three seasons at GSAC-rival The Master’s, Read sat out the 2006-07 season before helping the Eagles to their first-ever sweep of the GSAC regular season and tournament titles. Read also was named to the all-GSAC team for the second time in his four-year collegiate career. |
