CCS Trials Recap/Results
Hot Temperatures, Blazing Performances at CCS Semi-Finals
Despite a massive heat wave that struck the bay area the Valley Christian Warriors beat the heat, and the competition this past Saturday at the CCS Semi Finals. Representing the boys in the Long Jump, Daniel Carillo qualified in the 5th position with a mark of 21 feet, 8 inches. His season best of 22-0 from the WCAL championship last week is currently the 5th best jump in the CCS this year.
The girl’s also blazed into the finals. The 4 x 100 team comprised of Dahlys Marshall, Jenna Davis, Kristin Houp and Hannah Goranson qualified for the finals by winning their heat with a time of 49.07. The Warrior’s 4 x 100 team is currently ranked second in the CCS and is the third fastest team ever for Valley Christian.
In the Girl’s 100 Meter Hurdles, Dahlys Marshall continues to dominate the competition and ran a season best of 13.99. She is undefeated in this event for 2008 and this race will prove to be one of the most exciting races of the year as she will go head to head against Vashti Thomas of Mt. Pleasant. Marshall and Thomas have the two fastest times in the CCS this year and are the only two who have broken 14 seconds. This will prove to be one of the most exciting duals at the CCS meet this year.
Making an amazing comeback from a high ankle sprain in her first meet of the year, Sophomore Hannah Goranson qualified for the CCS meet by meeting the automatic qualifying standard when she ran her personal best time of 15.55 at the WCAL championship. Making her first CCS appearance, Goranson finished 12th with a time of 15.73.
In the distance evens, Jennifer Bergman represented the warriors in the girl’s 3200 meters. Running a strategic race due to the hot temperatures, Bergman ran at the front of the pack and finished with a big kick on the last lap to finish second behind Katie Daly of St. Ignatius by 0.35 of a second. Of the competitors that have qualified for the CCS finals she has the third fastest time this year.
The Girl’s 400 Meters has continued to be one of the most dominating events for the Warriors. School record holder, Kristin Houp and Cherrele McMillian finished 1-2 for the second consecutive week and are the top two seeds entering the finals this Friday. These girls currently own two of the three fastest times in school history and also ranked in the top three in the CCS.
 
In the 200 meters Dahlys Marshall had her second outstanding performance of the day, winning her heat in a season best time of 24.46. Marshall, who won the WCAL championship a week ago, is the top seed going into the finals. Also having an outstanding race, Kristin Houp followed up her top 400 meter performance by running the 3rd fastest time of the day, with a season best time of 24.76.

The girl’s 4 x 400 meter relay team has won the last two races in convincing fashion the past two weeks. The team of Dahlys Marshall, Kristin Houp, Jenna Davis and Cherrele McMillian easily won their heat by a crushing 11 seconds. They enter the CCS finals with the fastest time of the day running 4:00.35. Earlier this year, these girls set the school record with a time of 3:50.16 and currently are the fastest team in the CCS this year.
