05/13/08 ~ Track & Field
End of Season Recap

What an amazing league meet. Seven girls did an amazing job and took 2nd overall and barely missed winning the entire meet by 4 points.   We now move on to CCS with confidence because those same 7 girls all have a great chance to compete in the finals. Listed below is the link with the info for the next 2 weeks.  http://cifccs.org/playoffs/participantinfo/2007-2008/trkpib08.html

The girls varsity team were courageous and clearly darlings of the meet.  We did lose by 4 points to Mitty but putting things in perspective, we only had 7 girls and a total of 13 entries with everyone not in complete health.  Of the 13 entries, we were 1st, 2nd or 3rd in 11 of the races.  Mitty had 28 entries and were it not for that darn high jump, we might have the blue plaque instead of the red one :-) Did you also know that Valley owns the league record in 6 of the 10 track events and has out performed in 9 of the 10 events its just that the other 3 performances were not done on the day of league finals.  All of this with a team size each year under 10 athletes.  It probably does not mean much to anyone but me but as you can see, I am very proud of the girls and all they give to the program this year and in previous years.

The girls JV team capped off the season just nice with 6 athletes qualifying for the league finals. Young and excited about the sport is a great combination and I am looking forward to these athletes returning next year for another year of success.

The boy’s varsity, 4 strong, managed to send 2 on to CCS. Their diligence and commitment to hard work was very evident in their performances on Saturday.

The frosh soph boys would not be left out of the mix!  They concluded the meet with their season best performance in the 4 x 400m relay with a time of 3:38.27. Their performance was amazing.  The individual events were exciting to watch and I think left each one with a good deal of excitement in anticipation for next year.

Even though there are two very important stages of competition left, CCS and State meet, I would say that the league championships were concluded and competed at the highest level possible, just check out the season performance list. All should be congratulated for their stellar season performances.
