Seniors Dahlys Marshall and Kristen Houp sat down with family and friends for their college signing ceremony. Both girls have maintained at least a 3.5 GPA and have collected
multiple league championships, as well as CCS titles on relay teams.
The tradition of the signing ceremony started way back and was held in Mike Machado's office.
It has grown and now is a great opportunity to encourage other students as well.
Tammie Marshall, who is Dahlys's mom,
coached both Kristen and Dahlys all 4 years.
She reflected on the many trips where bonding and closeness took place.
Kristen started track by just doing her own thing. It eventually clicked with much prayer and talking to and she decided to continue on with it.
Tammie appreciates Dahlys for allowing her to share the intimacy of being both mom and coach.
Dahlys's father, Greg, also stood between the girls. He took a journey back 4 years when he started coaching Kristen and of course, Dahlys.
"Stay the course. Continue to develop skills and focus on opportunities."
He reminisced on life with his daughter and how the sun would be going down and they would walk together, off the track, just talking about stuff.
The track has been a vehicle for his closeness with his daughter.
Ken Houp, Kristen's father, reflected on the New York trip with Kristen
and how the track coach at Columbia University asked how Kristen was feeling about her next step in life.
He is happy to be along for this wonderful ride Kristen is journeying on.
Dahlys Marshall stated, " I am hoping to accomplish a quality education that will allow me to pursue my career goals and have a challenging athletic environment and i can hopefully become one of the nations best hurdlers. I will remember to put God first and not blend in with the college influences."
Congratulations Dahlys and Kristen!
