This weekend Dec 1, 2007 in Stockton, California, five Valley Christian Varsity warriors experienced their first competition of the year. It was a tournament they have battled in before. However, this year the tournament had doubled in size and hosted such teams as Liberty, Elk Grove, Bulach Colony & others with state ranked wrestlers. It was definitely going to be a bumpy ride. Yet it was competition our wrestlers have seen before but not so early in the season. After a long day that began at 5:30am and ended around 8pm, our wrestlers emerged with some brilliant hard fought victories and some disappointing defeats. Though they all came home with battle scars (bumps, bruises, sore shoulders, facial abrasions, etc, etc) and positive signs that they are developing well so early in the season. Some of our wrestlers also came home with medals.
Jordan Osuna 103 lbs 1-2
Jordan was forced to bump up to 112’s for the remainder of the season to meet the new weight management plan. Although this was a difficult adjustment for him, he was awesome this weekend. He went 1-2 losing 6-7 to an opponent that went on to medal. Jordan’s success came because he was diligent in applying good technique that we have been working on these last few weeks. It was working well for him. If he keeps this up and adjusts well to his new weight class Jordan will do very well this year. Great job Jordan.

Adam Jordan Crawley 145 lbs 2-2
Last year, Adam wrestled 135’s, however this year like Osuna, he too is making an adjustment to a higher weight class. In fact he bumped up two weight classes to 145’s. AJ also wrestled well this weekend. Adam demonstrated lots of speed, good leg riding and some great ankle picks. His losses came to Liberty High School and Granada High School wrestlers both whom are North Coast ranked wrestlers. Great job AJ.
Charlie Galaviz 171 lbs 3rd Place 4-1
Charlie had a good tournament. He pinned 4 opponents. His only loss came to a sleeper from Laguna Creek High School. That wrestler went on to win the 171lb weight class. Great job Charlie.

Michael Sherwood 189 lbs 2-2
Michael wrestled very impressively this weekend. He exercised lots of patience and had great balance. He pinned his first two opponents in the 1st period. Michael was one match away from medaling. Great job Michael.
