VC Finishes Fourth at the Livermore Classic

The Valley Christian varsity wrestling team completed their preseason competition this weekend with pride after traveling and competing in the "Livermore Classic" in Livermore. There we encountered 24 teams in total from different sections and all with one goal in mind, to destroy the other. However our biggest initial competitor was probably the 25th team, the Livermore Wrestling Fans. This local presence was loud and effective. It proved to provide the extra strength and endurance needed as they helped propell the Livermore Cowboys to a first place finish. Although this proved to provide the local team a home field advantage, it also served to motivate our wrestlers. With only 6 varsity wrestlers and the odds stacked against us, we finished a strong fourth, missing 3rd place and a Team trophy by only 1/2 point. This was a distinquishable accomplishment. However looking at the bigger picture, all six wrestlers placed in the top 8.

Adam Crawley - 5th Place:
AJ finished 5th in the 135lb weight class after starting off with an early defeat and then rebounding with three consecutive dominating wins.

AJ Crawley

Chris Van Elderen - 7th Place:
CJ finished 7th in the 140lb weight class with some early needed wins using his quickness and good leg riding skills.

Charlie Galaviz - 2nd Place:
Charlie made the finals by taking out the #2 seed and then fell short of winning the title by 1 point. He finished 2nd in the 160lb weight class.

Mafoe James - 3rd Place:
Mafoe finished 3rd in the 171lb weight class by overpowering his opponents and wearing them down.

Peipe James - 2nd Place:
LJ started off the day by struggling to make weight. However with some blessings, he made weight and some. He made it to the finals and finished 2nd in the 189lb weight class.

Ryan Gardner - 2nd Place:
Ryan a true 215 pounder wrestled up again this tournament. He too made it to the finals and finished 2nd in the Heavy-Weight weight class.
