JV Wrestlers Take 5th Place out of 25 Teams at the Ruppel Tournament at Cupertino High School
The JV wrestling team took 7 young men to a competitive local tournament this last Fri Jan 5 and brought home 5 medals. Not only did a high percentage of them place, but as a small squad they collectively scored enough wins to place 5th amongst 25 other schools. Head Varsity Coach Oscar Gonzalez & Head JV Coach Steve Hernandez were both present and were very pleased with this young groups results and progress this early in the season. However both agree there is still a lot of work needed. Please see the individual results below.
Nick Atwood – Nick never gives up. He fights to the end. He went 2-1 and placed 3rd.
Sean Grey – Sean is very strong and finds ways to move his opponents. He placed 4th
Andrew Luu – Andrew is a newer wrestler but a quick learner. He almost medaled
Kevin Ngo – Kevin wrestles defensively. He went 2-2. He also just fell short of a medal
Jordon Ozuna – Jordon wrestles hard at practice and applies everything he learns in his matches. It paid off well this weekend. He went 4-0 and took 1st place. Way to go Jordon
Alex Salandanan – Alex is a smooth wrestler but can also be bursty and explosive. He went 3-1 and placed 6th
Michael Sherwood – Michael is proving to be a huge obstacle for his opponents to take down. He lost a tight match in overtime in the semis. He moved on to take 3rd with a 3-1 record.
