09/17/07 ~ B - Water Polo
Weekly Recap
This week VCHS Men’s Water Polo focused on improving upon their 4-1 showing at the Schmitt Tournament and preparing for the America’s Finest City Tournament in San Diego (Sept. 20-23).
They have been focused on improving in two areas this past week: 6 on 5 man-up and understanding when to push the ball and when to slow up the counter attack and set up the control offense. VCHS knows they must improve in these areas to compete with the teams in the upper-echelon of CCS.
As many know, the Warriors have practiced hard and are determined to improve. Seven families have volunteered to pray for the team each night of the week, combined with weekly devotionals led by the coaching staff.
On ‘B’ days during school, the athletes also have an optional study hall that is open to them in Coach Carlson’s room (203). Many athletes have used this time to keep caught up in their studies.
On top of the spiritual and academic support the athletes are receiving, they are also being supported nutritionally by the team moms this year. This year's team moms have been bringing and sometimes cooking, breakfast at each morning practice. From breakfast burritos, pancakes and bacon to muffins and bagels, the team has looked forward to the end of each grueling morning workout…not necessarily because it is the end of training but more because of the delicious food being cooked and awaiting them.
The VCHS team is traveling to San Diego on Thursday (Sept. 20) to compete in five games this weekend versus some of the countries top talent. Please continue to support the team in prayer and any other ways you can think of.
