JV Recap - Live Oak and San Benito Tournament
This week the Valley Christian JV Boy's Water Polo squad experienced their first games of the season. On Tuesday night the Warriors traveled to Morgan Hill to play Live Oak. We took an early lead in the first few minutes of the first quarter and never looked back. Casey Fleming led the team in scoring and played flawless defense throughout the entire game. Live Oak did not put points on the board until the third quarter. Other Warriors with goals included: Jordan Sisson, Nick Usher, Ryan Hoffmeister, Bill Hix, Kevin Dorn, and Grant Douglas. The Final score was Warriors 12 Live Oak 2.
The next few days of practice we really focused on our front court offense as well as our counter defense. These aspects of our game would be crucial for the tough teams that we would face during the Hollister Tournament at San Benito High School.
Saturday morning we faced St. Francis for the opening game of the tournament missing two starters, Casey Fleming, and Bill Hix. They were a very physical and experienced team giving us our first loss of the season 14-0. Our next game of the tournament we faced Menlo who was the 2006 Varsity CCS Champion. Menlo's JV team came out the same as St. Francis with a very fast and experienced team giving us our second loss 14-2. Goals for the Warriors were scored by Ryan Hoffmeister who scored from 2 meters and Vu Tran's goal came from an extra man opportunity. Our final game of the day was against Salinas High School . Salinas came off two losses earlier in the day to Menlo and St. Francis. Salinas came out very strong scoring 4 back to back goals but with help from goalie Andrei Savastru, the Warriors were able to put themselves on the board with a goal from Ryan Hoffmeister. Hoffmeister would have 2 more goals in the game. Other Warrior goals include: Mike Lomio, Kevin Dorn, Dante Cavazos, and Grant Douglas. However, Salinas would widen the gap to 16 and the Warriors would fall 16-8.
What may seem as a frustrating weekend was actually a very good learning experience for the boys. Because we are an inexperienced team, we will take all of the tough games and use them as an opportunity to learn from and to grow.
