09/09/07 ~ B - Water Polo
Weekly Update - Coach Gabe Sclafani
My first two weeks as an assistant coach for the Men's Water polo team have begun to introduce me to a varsity squad which, I believe, is poised to reap the rewards of many years of hard work; as well as a junior varsity squad with enormous potential and courage. I have been privileged to be named men's program assistant, which provides freedom to work with both program levels. As a Valley Christian water polo alum who graduated in ‘01, I have a unique perspective of the program.
The aquatics program has benefited greatly from the hard work and sacrifice of its former and current leaders. The mission begun by Bob Colyar and carried forward by Toby Mizenheimer has been developed through the leadership of Cathy Manthy, and many others. Varsity coaches Caleb Carlson and Steve Barnett have built the program for the past four years, achieving goals never before reached by any Warriors men's water polo squad. One of the most motivating beliefs held by this squad is that greater achievements are yet to come. I have faith that this is not only true concerning the '07 water polo season, but of the athletes' Christian lives as well. Christian leadership has been exemplified by the team's co-captains, Jared Clapham and Aiden Lenihan.
During my short tenure with the team, I have been impressed by their work ethic. I have also seen them unite as a team, and rise to the challenge of adversity. I believe that this team will see this program achieve, and be blessed and honored more than any in the past. My continuing goal and prayer for this season is to instill the Christian values that create victorious lives, because they are the same values that create victorious water polo seasons.
